Mentor: Arla Baumbuger

After finding that I will need to learn how to sew for my senior project, I immediately turned to my aunts and mom to teach me. My mom informed me that my Aunt Arla had the most experience in the sewing department. She did a wonderful job of not only teaching me how to sew, but helping me with every single step. My grandma taught all my aunts and mom to sew when they were little. I think it is a great skill to have learned. Honestly, I had absolutely no experience with sewing. At first I was very skeptical if I could learn how to sew so quickly. Arla taught me a couple different stitches: a regular stitch and a gathering stitch. I used both of these stitches to finish my dresses. Without my mom and Arla I would not be where I am with my project today. I feel I owe a huge thanks to everyone who helped me. The women in my life have an enormous impact on me; I hope to be as well rounded as them someday.
